Today I’m doing the graveside service for a member of our church that was nearly 100 years old (He would have been 100 on May 4th). That service combined with some new information I’m learning about the typical American diet has really caused me to be thinking lately about our future glorified bodies.
When Christ returns, he will raise the dead and give them glorified bodies. Those still alive when he comes will be caught up with Him in the air and be changed (1 Thess 4:17). After that, our bodies will be bodies that are imperishable. Just think about that amazing fact for a moment.
However, that future reality doesn’t give Christians the right to treat our bodies like a trash can until death or Christ returns. Christians are called to a higher standard. We should be leading the way in nutrition. We should be teaching others how to take care of our bodies.
It might seem like Christians would be the last group of people to care about their bodies considering the theology we hold concerning glorified bodies. Instead, we find verses like 1 Cor. 6:19, which remind Christians that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Our bodies are another area of stewardship that God has entrusted us. Are you a good steward of your body?
