Lately it seems that the headlines in the news have been more troublesome than normal. If you are like me, you look to verses like Philippians 4:6-7. Those verses say, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Those verses have been used to comfort so many believers. Whether it is someone heading into surgery at the hospital or a student preparing to take a final exam. We all need that peace that passes understanding.
However, l have begun to look at Php. 4:6-7 as more than two verses about peace. I have come to see verse six, in particular, as one of the biggest challenges in the Bible. It simply says, “Do not be anxious about anything.” Anything? We almost think that verse says, “Do not be anxious about most things, but it’s ok to be a little anxious.” Surly God did not mean to say anything, right? No, God meant what He said.
As you read the world news this week or face the many personal challenges that come with each new day, remember to not be anxious about ANYTHING.
