The last verse in the Book of Psalms (Psalm 150:6) says “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord.” The word breath is essentially used to say “everything that is alive.”
In a poetic way, the psalmist is saying everything endowed with this gift of breath, or life, should use it to praise God.
Even the fragile state of breath reminds us of our dependence on God. We need him to supply our every breath. There is a moment by moment dependence on God.
I will even take it a step further and say we need God in the space between breaths. That short space between when you finish exhaling and before you start inhaling: you need him.
