19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. - 1 Cor. 6:19-20
If you are a Christian, God is the rightful owner of your body. We know this is true in other areas of life as well. It’s a wonderful day when the Christian realizes that their house, savings account, car, Roth IRA, and everything else is actually owned by God. The Christian is just a steward of those things. Some Christ followers have heard this preached on Sunday morning, but they have not truly come to grasp its reality. The same is true for our bodies – they are not our own. 1 Cor. 6:19-20 gives two evidences of this fact. First, God’s Spirit indwells inside the body of the believer. Second, Christ’s redemptive work on the cross paid the price. Yet we still eat that unhealthy food, put that harmful toxin in our body, or do that displeasing thing with our bodies and think in the back of our mind, “It my body and I can do with it as I please.” When will we grasp the reality of this verse?
