You are not a shark

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.” (John 14:27).

On a scale of one to ten, how much peace do you have today? Does it come and go? If you have a personal relationship with Jesus, you can be sure that Jesus is not withholding His peace from you. So why then does it seem to disappear from our lives at times? The reason for this is that we get our focus off Jesus and instead focus on our circumstances. We start to spend less and less time with the Lord in prayer and His Word. And we start to get busy, without ever slowing down. It’s not surprising then to see our peace begin to disappear. We walked away from it; Jesus did not take it away.

It reminds me of many species of sharks that breathe through a technique called ram ventilation. They get their oxygen from the water by allowing the water to enter their mouth as they swim. For the most part, these sharks need to keep swimming to stay alive. Christian, you are not built the same way. Slow down and enjoy rest in the Lord.
